For my first look, I went to the Maxwell Mansion in Lake Geneva to create a magical Great Gatsby themed look. The mansion is such a luxurious place to shoot. It wasn’t too often that I found someone wearing such a unique outfit and I loved that someone else was wearing vintage too. Earlier that day, I had found a vintage American apparel velvet dress at goodwill and wore it to the show despite the typical February weather in Wisconsin... When I complimented her on the 70s frock, she kept emphasizing that she wore vintage clothes because she was a size zero and nothing fit her. I understood her sentiment; I have fit issues every time I try on clothes. Even ones I own! My sizes range from XS to medium depending upon the brand, the fit, the clothing item, the material, the day of the month, my stress level etc. And the vintage American apparel dress I was wearing was a size large. This whole conversation made me feel insecure about my shape and size when I was trying to connect with her on something I loved (vintage clothes). Size should not define your self worth or happiness. I have curves, cellulite, and blemishes and it’s okay. I’m learning to embrace my body one day at a time. One story that my mom loves to tell about me is when I was in preschool... Let me set the stage, my favorite color was FUCHSIA. If ya don’t know, fuchsia is like magenta but a little more purple. Clearly, I had a thing for a bold colors even when I was four. Like any four year old, I wanted everything to be my fav color (read: FUCHSIA EVERYTHING)! At the time, my parents had applied for me to go a Montessori school. During the visit, they had me tour the school, asked me a lot questions and then had me color a picture of apples in a tree. I started by color the leaves dark green and then started coloring the apples bright pink (they didn’t have a fuchsia crayon). When I finished my “masterpiece”, the woman at the school reviewed the drawing and scolded me for coloring the apples pink saying that “apples aren’t pink”. From this, I learned something important. Don’t let others hinder your creativity. While others might not see your artistic vision, it’s important to stay true to yourself and your art. Heat up milk in small saucepan at medium heat, stir occasionally. 2. Pour hot cocoa powder into a mug, add milk once hot. 3. Add 1/2 cup of hot coffee to the mug. 4. Add 1 pump of Torani Puremade Salted Caramel Syrup to the mug, and stir. 5. Top with whipped cream and add a pinch of sea salt. 6. Add a marshmallow for full sugar overload! Lemme know if you try it!
